From Our Pastor

From Our Pastor: Preparing Our Hearts for Advent

This weekend we begin Advent. I can’t believe it is already here, but it sneaks up on us sometimes. Remember, the Advent season is penitential. We take the time to do some reflection, especially of where God is working to rid sin out of our lives, but also to get us to open our hearts all the more. May we truly take this season not just to prepare for parties and festivities, but to prepare our hearts and souls.

We look at the readings and see the focus on the transformation of Israel from a kingdom of war and fighting to a Kingdom of Peace. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. His light is transformative.

This weekend’s Gospel is where some protestants attempt to create the idea of the rapture. WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE RAPTURE! It is not a thing. The concept was never taught in Christianity until somewhere in the 19th century. This is not a teaching of Christianity. What this passage is about is being prepared to see the Lord. We never know the day nor the hour we may be taken home to God. I am very well aware of this in my life. It has always been how I live. Live like this is your last day, but that also means always be prepared to give an account to the Lord. Always have your life and heart ready to meet God.

Speaking of this mentality, it has now been one year. I say it’s like an anniversary or even a new birthday. November 23, 2024 was when I went to the ER for my heart attacks. November 27, 2024 is when I had my quadruple bypass open heart surgery. These are days I will not forget. I have so much to be thankful for and always will be grateful to God for this life. I want to thank all of you for your continued prayers.

I thank you also for your patience in my returning to ministry. Even after returning, surgery again, other injuries to recover from, including PT for my knee and ankle. (Thank you Nathan Lunt for working with me). It has been a long recovery and lots of setbacks and much to heal from. Thank you for your patience in getting back to you or not keeping up at times. I finally am feeling a lot better and getting my energy back. I am not 100 percent, but I am heading in the right direction finally.

I am so grateful for your love and prayers and cards of support. They mean the world to me. I hope you and your families had a great Thanksgiving Day. I pray it was a time of unity, joy, fun, family and food. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
